Orange County – A Time to Smile
Submitted by: Johnny Hing
On Friday, January 25, 2008, close to 5:00 pm, one of our receptionists informed
me that a client had come into our regional office to report that she had no food
at home and couldn’t feed her children because her EBT card was not working and
she was not able to access her Food Stamps benefits. After I verified the status
of her EBT account, I noticed that it was in a dormant and also expunged status.
In CDS time, in order to reactivate an EBT account we would have had to fill out a form and forward it to the Accounting Office. At that time, the estimated length of time to complete the task would have been 15-30 minutes. Now, using CalWIN, I was able to re-activate the EBT account by accessing “Benefit Issuance & Recovery/Maintain Case Issuance Method/EBT Account Re-activation Detail” and that was all I needed to do. The task was accomplished in no time and the customer was very satisfied.
