Orange County - CalWIN and me
Submitted by: Domnica Falcusan
I am a Social Services Supervisor working with a combined unit of Case Managers and Employment and Eligibility Specialists at the North Region, Sand Dollar. I was among those who waited for CalWIN to be implemented. I am always ready to learn something new, especially if it is related to computers.
The workers in our district use to call me “the queen of QRPB” because I helped them with QRAB and other questions related to QRPB. I was also known as “the GIS doctor” because I always quickly “diagnosed and prescribed the right treatment for their cases’ illness”, especially for non-compliance cases. All these skills and knowledge were very helpful to me during the CalWIN conversion. Working with CalWIN gave me the opportunity to improve my computer skills, and to be more analytical and engaged in researching different ways to resolve discrepancies. Whenever I found new ways of resolving discrepancies in CalWIN, I always happily shared my findings, steps by step, with other workers. I can say that communication and teamwork improved in our district because of CalWIN. Another improvement that CalWIN brought about was CARS, a very good tool used by supervisors to complete case reviews. With CARS I don’t miss anything that I am supposed to review and there are no forms to complete when I am done with my review. I just have to use the “Print” button. Compare with the previous way of doing case reviews, this is faster and easier.
My experience with CalWIN is a very good one and I often feel like I’m “playing” when I use the system.
